High-Power Charging Infrastructure in Western Mountainous Areas Boosts NEV Development

With a maximum charging efficiency of nearly "1 kilometer per second", covering an area of over 3,900 square meters and featuring 130 charging parking spaces... Recently, a full liquid-cooled super charging station put into use at Quanhu Park in Baiyun District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province has attracted public attention.


With the rapid growth of China's new energy vehicle ownership, improving relevant supporting facilities has become an urgent task. According to a survey by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, the current domestic public charging pile market presents a pattern of "low-power dominance, insufficient penetration of fast charging, and emerging ultra-fast charging".


Last July, four Chinese ministries and commissions jointly issued a notice on promoting the scientific planning and construction of high-power charging facilities, proposing that by the end of 2027, efforts should be made to have more than 100,000 high-power charging facilities nationwide, with iterative upgrades in service quality and technological applications.


"The construction of super charging stations is to promote the charging experience to match the refueling efficiency of fuel-powered vehicles, thereby expanding the high-end electric vehicle market," said Lin Xiaolan, Director of Hubei Shanxin Energy Technology Group Co., Ltd., one of the constructors of the full liquid-cooled super charging station at Quanhu Park in Baiyun District, Guiyang City. Through multi-scenario applications and diversified comprehensive services, the demonstration station represents the future development direction of charging station construction.


It is understood that to meet the charging needs of new energy vehicles, Baiyun District of Guiyang City coordinated with Guiyang Power Supply Bureau to provide the site, and China Southern Power Grid Guizhou Electric Vehicle Service Co., Ltd. participated in the investment and construction of this first integrated optical storage, charging and discharging full liquid-cooled super charging station in Guizhou.


During a reporter's visit, it was observed that the station is equipped with 20 full liquid-cooled super charging guns with a maximum power of 600kW, 100 fast charging guns with a maximum power of 250kW, and 10 20kW bidirectional V2G charging and discharging devices. Through the combination of "super charging + fast charging + V2G", it can simultaneously provide ultra-fast charging services for 120 vehicles and bidirectional charging and discharging services for 10 vehicles.


Through the background operation monitoring, a large screen not only intuitively displays the real-time operating data of the super charging station but also includes sub-menus such as the energy management system, energy storage system, photovoltaic system, and charging system.


"Due to the current 'peak shaving and valley filling' policy, the valley period is from 00:00 to 08:00 with the lowest electricity price. Most of our users are ride-hailing and taxi drivers, so they all choose to charge during this period," said Shi Jihong, the station manager, while opening the "charging system" section and talking about the daily usage trend.


"The experience here can be said to be the top level among charging stations. The environment is good, there are many charging positions, and there's no need to queue," said Che Zhong, a ride-hailing driver charging at a fast charging position. He only needs to charge once a day, which usually takes about 50 minutes to fully charge.


Shi Jihong introduced that the current daily charging capacity of the super charging station is about 20,000 kWh, which is still far from the designed daily capacity of about 180,000 kWh. It is understood that China Southern Power Grid Guizhou Electric Vehicle Service Co., Ltd. will accelerate the realization of "full coverage of super charging stations in prefectures and cities" and "full deployment of fast charging stations in counties and districts" in Guizhou, continuously improving the charging facility network to allow more car owners to enjoy efficient and convenient charging services.
